We're almost halfway through the spring semester, and scholarship deadlines are approaching fast.
News On 6 was joined Tuesday afternoon by Jenny Stasinopoulos with the Tulsa Community Foundation to talk about how you can get all the information you need.
Tatum: What do students need to know about scholarships?
Jenny: The Tulsa Community Foundation is super excited to announce that our application cycle is currently open for the 2024-25 academic year. Most of our applications are live right now and accepting applicants, and we look forward to having lots of applications come in from around Green Country and beyond.
Tatum: There are a lot of scholarships out there. Talk to me about the different types that are available.
Jenny: There are really scholarships for just about everybody available. We have over 40 funds right now that are currently open funds for teachers teaching at Catholic schools in the eastern Catholic Diocese; we have funds for high schoolers who are graduating and joining the University experience in the fall. And then we even have funds for adults who may be going back to school or have suffered a hardship and haven't had the opportunity to go to college.
Tatum: And the advice always is, you never know what you could be approved for. So apply, why not try for it. It can be kind of overwhelming. How can students and families find that information, maybe go through and see which would be the right ones for them to apply for?
Jenny: Every scholarship is going to have its own culture, its own requirements and eligibility requirements. So we encourage everybody to go to TulsaCF.org and look at the list of all of our scholarships that we have available. And if anything calls to somebody, then they are welcome to apply, and we hope to award them.
Tatum: And those deadlines are coming sooner rather than later. So there's no time to waste. Go ahead and get online and start researching and applying.
Jenny: That's right. Most of our funds are going to close on March 31. A few will close on April 15. For the majority of students, they have about a month.
